Danai Hongwanishkul has been named Executive Chef, overseeing the culinary programs for Ocean7 Restaurant and AQUA Bistro and Wine Bar. The new Chef brings a wealth of global experience and a culinary style defined by fresh perspectives and multi-cultural techniques.

Born in Bangkok and raised in Toronto, Chef Danai is celebrated for his ability to weave together diverse cultural influences—from Thai street food and French cuisine to bold Southern and Japanese flavours—to create approachable yet innovative dishes.

His commitment to excellence was honed during his tenure as Executive Chef at Notch8 Restaurant (Fairmont Hotel Vancouver) and previously as Executive Chef de Cuisine at Marcus’ Bermuda, where he worked under the direct mentorship of world-renowned Chef Marcus Samuelsson. His high-profile training also includes working with MasterChef Canada judge Michael Bonacini and Patois owner Craig Wong. Chef Danai’s foundational experience includes time at acclaimed Canadian establishments like Toronto’s Canoe and the popular Jackpot Chicken Rice, recognized as a “Best New Restaurant.”

A chef of few but powerful words, Chef Danai emphasizes the use of organic, locally sourced, and high-quality ingredients, believing “the food will always taste better with better ingredients.”

Julie Ferris is our all-time favorite bartender with a penchant for “geeking out over cocktails.” With decades of experience across British Columbia, Julie brings her enthusiasm for handcrafted, innovative drinks to the Kingfisher Restaurants. Julie has refined her craft in some of the region’s most esteemed venues, mastering the art of creating bespoke cocktails from scratch using foraged flowers and her own secret infusions. At Ocean7 Restaurant and AQUA Bistro & Wine Bar, she designs cocktail menus with creative flair, drawing from an extensive selection of prestigious liquors and wines. Her approach combines a keen intuition for guest preferences with fresh, local inspiration to create distinctive flavours. Whether she’s crafting something from her extensive repertoire or inventing a new special on the spot, Julie’s mission is to delight guests with every sip.
